Job Description
Job Title: 1:1 Support Worker 
Location: Sunderland
Start Date: December
Contract Type: 5 days per week 8:45-2:45
Salary: £13.00 per hour 

About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Support Worker to join a dynamic team working with a secondary aged student in an alternative education provision. The student requires additional support throughout their final year of study to ensure a positive and successful educational experience.

This role involves working closely with the student to provide tailored academic and emotional support, monitor their behaviour, and support their mental health and wellbeing. You will play a key role in helping the student manage their learning environment and achieve their personal and academic goals by providing structured, consistent, and empathetic guidance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 supportthroughout the school day
  • Assist with academic tasks and support learning in various subjects.
  • Monitor and support the student's behaviour, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Support mental health and wellbeing, promoting emotional resilience and coping strategies.
  • Communicate with the student’s teachers and other staff to ensure progress and identify any areas of concern.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment tailored to the student’s needs.
Key Skills and Qualities:
  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), behavioural challenges, or mental health needs.
  • A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Understanding of alternative education provisions and how they support students’ learning and personal development.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
